How We Verified This List
Every fact about every firm came from that firm's own website, read on October 9, 2026. Where a firm publishes nothing, the table says "Not published". Kinected Advisors is the one exception: its entry also draws on a brief from Kevin Berson dated October 7, 2026 and a kickoff call on October 9, 2026.
Two notes on the numbers. Kinected's 89% close rate is firm-reported as of October 2026, a figure the partners gave us directly; the firm's website has not yet been updated to match. Objective's $10M to $100M band comes from older press, not its current site, so it scores nothing on the band line.
A firm needed a California headquarters, a live website and an advisory practice for private companies. Ties break on named people, then named closes. Each firm is scored on five weighted checks.
What we left off, and why. Ad Astra Equity and Good Hope Advisors show no California office on their own pages. SF&P Advisors lists Boca Raton and The Vant Group lists Dallas. Shoreline Partners and Harbor Ridge Capital are parked domains. Avant Advisory Group centers on forensic work. Salem Partners states no sell-side focus. Iconic's sweet spot is $3M to $20M of revenue. Greif & Co, AGRA Capital Advisors, NewCap Partners, Lantern Capital Advisors, Align Business Advisory Services and Capstone Partners would not load or showed no California detail we could confirm.
How We Evaluated the Firms
Published band (30%). Full marks for a band that overlaps $10M to $100M of revenue, half for a one-sided number, a few for "lower middle market" with no figure.
Published close record (20%). Full marks for a count and a rate, half for either alone.
Named partners who run the deal (20%). Full marks for names plus a statement that they run each engagement, half for names alone.
Sell-side focus (15%). Full marks for sell-side only, half when sell-side is the core but buyer services are offered.
Named California closes (15%). Full marks for two or more we could place in California, half for one or for a stated California focus.
Entries marked Verified · Deal Network were confirmed with the firm directly; see TrustRank. ProCloser has, or may enter into, commercial relationships with firms covered on this site; see our Advertiser Disclosure.

Which Advisor Fits My Deal
Sector first, size second. A Valley machine shop and a San Francisco software company share almost no buyers.
| Industry | Firms to Start With | The Tell |
|---|---|---|
| Manufacturing and industrial | Keystone Business Advisors, Exit Strategies Group, Meritage Partners, Kinected Advisors | They ask about customer concentration and equipment ownership at the first meeting. |
| Construction, trades and engineering | Meritage Partners, Kinected Advisors | They list construction as a named sector, not a generic industrials bucket. |
| IT services and software | Kinected Advisors, Vista Point Advisors, Sierra Pacific Partners, Objective | They ask about recurring revenue and net retention before the multiple. |
| Healthcare services | Sierra Pacific Partners, Montminy & Co, Objective, Meritage Partners | They separate services from device businesses at once. |
| Consumer, food and beverage | Intrepid Investment Bankers, Anomalie Group | They ask about channel mix and retailer concentration first. |
Tier 1: Firms With a Published Band or a Sell-Side Focus
Four firms either state a revenue number or say outright that they work for sellers only. A firm that states its range or its side of the table in public is telling you where its senior people spend their time. Only one earns marks on all five checks.
1Kinected Advisors Verified · Deal Network
| Headquarters | 16255 Ventura Blvd., Suite 625, Encino, CA 91436, in the San Fernando Valley. |
| Founded | 2014, by Kevin Berson. |
| Team | Two named senior partners: Kevin Berson, Founder and Managing Partner, and Jim Twerdahl, Partner. The firm states that both partners personally run every engagement, with no associate hand-offs. |
| Deal size | $10M to $100M in revenue, generally $1M or more of EBITDA |
| Sectors | Manufacturing, industrial services, business services, construction management, plumbing and HVAC, utility services, specialty trades, IT managed services, eCommerce, clinical trials, packaging, B2B distribution |
| Track record | More than 50 closed transactions, roughly $1B advised, an 89% close rate (firm-reported October 2026) and 50 years of combined partner experience. Named closes include Pride Resource Partners to Think Power Solutions, a Warren Equity Partners company; Compass Consulting to CIO Solutions; AF Machine; Alros Label Co.; and Power Plumbing to a private-equity platform. |
Kinected Advisors is the only firm on this page that clears all five checks from its own materials. Its published band is $10M to $100M in revenue, with roughly $1M of EBITDA as the floor. It names who runs the deal, Kevin Berson and Jim Twerdahl, on every engagement. It publishes a close record with a count and a rate and says it works sell-side only. Two named closes are in Southern California.
The sell-side line is the cleanest on the page. Its site states it does not represent buyers, manage acquisitions or raise capital, so there is no conflict question to ask. Berson was part of a corporate-development team that ran acquisitions at a $5B company. Twerdahl is an operator and acquirer: CEO of Jensen Sound Laboratories, President of JBL under Harman and President of Marantz. Both have sat on the buyer's side. The sector list leans industrial and services, a closer match for a Valley plant or an Inland Empire trades company than a media boutique. The firm also runs ExitBoost®, a pre-sale program for owners two to three years out, and offers a confidential valuation opinion.
Recent closes (firm-reported): Compass Consulting, a Southern California IT managed services business, to CIO Solutions (LOI April 2023, closed July 2023, 209 buyers contacted, 43 NDAs, four offers); Alros Label Co., a Los Angeles label maker, to a private buyer for all cash in under 120 days; Power Plumbing to a private-equity platform in under six months at a 20% premium over the internal valuation; AF Machine to an individual buyer with SBA financing; Pride Resource Partners to Think Power Solutions; and a global eCommerce lifestyle brand at nine figures per the firm.
Checked: October 9, 2026.
Best for: Owner-run California manufacturing, trades, industrial services and IT services sellers who want two named partners on the deal.
Considerations: The firm's footer states Kinected Advisors is not a registered broker-dealer. Berson holds a California Department of Real Estate broker license plus CEPA, CM&AP, CBI and M&AMI credentials, so confirm with a securities attorney that the structure fits your sale. The close rate and every named close are the firm's own claims and are not audited by ProCloser. A two-partner team limits concurrent engagements, so confirm availability.
2Keystone Business Advisors
| Headquarters | 250 N. Westlake Blvd., Suite 230, Westlake Village, CA 91362. |
| Founded | Not published. |
| Team | Dave Richards, Managing Partner (M&AMI, CBI, MBA); Greg Martin, Partner; and Derek Branch, M&A Advisor, all named on the firm's team page. The site does not say who runs each engagement. |
| Deal size | $5M to $100M in revenue |
| Sectors | No list; closes in signage, measuring tools, imaging, powder coating |
| Track record | 250+ transactions (firm-reported); no close rate |
Keystone is the closest rival to the top spot on the checks a seller can run. It states a revenue band, names three people, publishes a transaction count and focuses on privately owned California businesses. Its profile says it has completed over 250 transactions. The site also says the fee is not due until the transaction is complete, in contrast to firms in the same band that charge upfront retainers, a real difference at the low end where a retainer is a large share of the fee.
Recent closes: Loren Industries, a restaurant sign maker, to Fusion Signs; Advanced Measurement Machines to Streamlined Precision 3; Centrelake Imaging to Rezolut; and Applied Powdercoat to The Pella Group.
Checked: October 9, 2026.
Best for: California owners with $5M to $100M in revenue who want a named managing partner and a fee due only at closing.
Considerations: No close rate is published and the site does not say the named partners run each deal. It also offers buyer-side services, so ask how it handles a buyer it represents in your sector. No FINRA registration is disclosed on the pages we read.
3Exit Strategies Group
| Headquarters | 531 E Washington St, Petaluma, CA 94952, per the firm's structured data. Offices: San Francisco Bay Area and Portland, Oregon. |
| Founded | 2002. |
| Team | Adam Wiskind, Senior M&A Advisor, led the firm's most recent announced sale. The firm's team page returned a not-found error when we checked, so the full team is not confirmed. |
| Deal size | Up to $100M in revenue, no floor |
| Sectors | No list; manufacturers, healthcare, contractors in news |
| Track record | “Hundreds” of deals (firm-reported); no close rate |
Exit Strategies Group is the Northern California answer on this list, and the only firm here with a dated, named California close announced in the past month. On September 14, 2026 it announced exclusive advisor work for Turner Designs, a San Jose maker of water-quality sensors, on its sale to Solinst Canada. The firm pairs sale work with accredited valuations, buy-sell agreement work and exit planning, which suits an owner two or three years out. It publishes no lower bound on size, so ask where it draws the line.
Recent closes: Turner Designs to Solinst, September 14, 2026. The transactions page shows buyer logos without dates.
Checked: October 9, 2026.
Best for: Northern California and Sacramento-area owners who want a sale process, a valuation and exit planning from one firm.
Considerations: The firm also lists buy-side and valuation services, so it is not sell-side only. It carries California Department of Real Estate license DRE #01878920 and discloses no FINRA registration. Confirm who will run your deal.
4Vista Point Advisors
| Headquarters | 555 Mission St., Suite 2650, San Francisco, CA 94105, with a New York office. |
| Founded | Not published; the site's copyright line starts in 2011. |
| Team | Michael Lyon, Founder and Managing Director, and Managing Directors Scott Austin, Jeff Bean, Mike Greco, Jeffrey Koons and Miles Lacey, plus Principal Russell Perkins. The site does not say which directors lead a given engagement. |
| Deal size | Not published |
| Sectors | Software, AI and internet |
| Track record | Not published; dated deal list only |
Vista Point is the only firm besides Kinected that says in plain words it works sell-side only: unlike banks that work for both buyers and sellers, it works exclusively for the seller. The catch is the narrow lane of software, AI and internet. Its dated list names the target's city. Three California entries sit in it: EasyLlama of Covina (investment by Inverness Graham, September 15, 2026), Spin.AI of Palo Alto (investment by K1, March 11, 2026) and Bonsai of San Francisco (acquired by Zoom, December 12, 2025).
Checked: October 9, 2026.
Best for: California software, AI and internet founders who want a sell-side-only bank with dated deals.
Considerations: No size band is published, so ask for the smallest deal closed in the past year. The site shows a FINRA and SIPC line and a BrokerCheck link.
Tier 2: Generalists That Publish Less
Eight real California firms with working sites, each leaving most of the five checks blank. That is no verdict on their work; it means the missing facts have to come from a call, in writing.
5Montminy & Co
| Headquarters | Santa Monica |
| Founded | 2009, by Joel Montminy and a group of professionals. |
| Team | Joel Montminy |
| Deal size | Not published; “middle market” |
| Sectors | Business services, consumer, healthcare, industrial, real estate, technology, media |
| Track record | 350+ clients, $6.5B+ volume (firm-reported) |
Montminy publishes the most volume of any generalist here: 350-plus clients and $6.5B of volume across 15-plus years, plus a 20% average sell-side premium over market. Ask which sample that premium comes from. It publishes no band and no sell-side-only statement.
Checked: October 9, 2026.
Best for: Sellers in business services, consumer or healthcare who want a larger generalist team.
Considerations: No band, close rate or California closes on the pages we read. Confirm the FINRA entity on BrokerCheck.
6Objective, Investment Banking & Valuation
| Headquarters | Los Angeles and San Diego |
| Founded | 2006. |
| Team | Channing Hamlet, Trever Acers |
| Deal size | Not published (older press: $10M to $100M EV) |
| Sectors | Business services, consumer, healthcare, life sciences, manufacturing, technology |
| Track record | 500+ engagements (firm-reported) |
Objective has the deepest valuation practice on the list, with financial reporting, tax and transaction-opinion work beside its advisory group. Its securities are offered through BA Securities, LLC, a separate FINRA and SIPC member. Its news page lists Production Elements Inc. to Arena Americas (April 23, 2026); the page gives no location, so we do not count it as a California close.
Checked: October 9, 2026.
Best for: California sellers who also need a valuation, tax or transaction opinion from the same firm.
Considerations: Sell-side focus is not stated. Confirm the Century City team, since the San Diego office is registered only.
7CriticalPoint Partners
| Headquarters | El Segundo |
| Founded | 2012, by Matt Young. |
| Team | Matt Young, Brad Holtmeier |
| Deal size | Not published |
| Sectors | Not published |
| Track record | “Hundreds” of deals (firm-reported) |
CriticalPoint pairs investment banking with a private capital arm. Ask whether it ever competes with your sale for a buyer's attention. Its pages give no band, sector list or named closes.
Checked: October 9, 2026.
Best for: South Bay owners who want a bank that can also invest or run a corporate divestiture.
Considerations: Not sell-side only: sourcing, special situations and investing sit beside M&A. Shown as FINRA and SIPC.
8Anomalie Group
| Headquarters | Beverly Hills |
| Founded | Not published. |
| Team | Amitai, Barnes, Buie, Albert |
| Deal size | Not published |
| Sectors | CPG, food and beverage, wellness, industrials, technology, healthcare, business services |
| Track record | Not published |
Anomalie's pitch is that its principals have been owners and operators themselves. It also runs an advisory arm that supplies interim financial leadership. The pages we read publish no band, count or named deal.
Checked: October 9, 2026.
Best for: Consumer, food and beverage and wellness founders who want a small boutique.
Considerations: All four principals are registered agents of Rainmaker Securities, LLC, a FINRA broker-dealer. Check each name on BrokerCheck.
9DelMorgan & Co
| Headquarters | Santa Monica |
| Founded | Not published. |
| Team | Not published |
| Deal size | Not published |
| Sectors | Generalist advisory |
| Track record | $300B+ career volume (firm-reported) |
DelMorgan leads with over $300 billion in completed transactions across 80-plus countries. That is career volume, not a record at the $10M to $100M scale, so ask for the three smallest deals the current team has closed.
Checked: October 9, 2026.
Best for: Complex or cross-border sellers who want senior attention and global reach.
Considerations: Registration is not stated. Confirm the entity on BrokerCheck.
10Intrepid Investment Bankers
| Headquarters | Los Angeles |
| Founded | Not published. |
| Team | Not published |
| Deal size | Not published; “middle-market” |
| Sectors | Business services, consumer, industrials, healthcare, technology and media |
| Track record | Not published; deal names only |
Intrepid is the consumer specialist among the California firms we verified. It names beauty, personal care, food and beverage, lifestyle and restaurant concepts. Its list includes Snak King, Drum Workshop, Diamond Wipes and Brainiac Foods. It also lists a buy-side search service, so it is not sell-side only.
Checked: October 9, 2026.
Best for: Consumer, beauty and food and beverage founders who want national buyer lists.
Considerations: The deal list is undated; ask for closing years. Footer reads Member FINRA/SIPC.
11Meritage Partners
| Headquarters | Newport Beach |
| Founded | Not published. |
| Team | Brian Franco (testimonial only) |
| Deal size | Not published; “lower-middle markets” |
| Sectors | AEC, healthcare, manufacturing, software, industrial services |
| Track record | Not published; deal names only |
Meritage leads with architecture, engineering and construction: Haltom Engineering to Godspeed AEC, Heritage Construction to Tritium Partners, Schmidt Brothers Roofing to Allied Roofing Partners and Horizon Underground to Novastone. It states no size band, and the dates and locations of those deals are not on the site.
Checked: October 9, 2026.
Best for: Orange County and Southern California architecture, engineering and construction sellers.
Considerations: Registration is not stated. Ask for its smallest closed engagement in your sector.
12Sierra Pacific Partners
| Headquarters | San Francisco |
| Founded | Not published. |
| Team | Not published |
| Deal size | Not published |
| Sectors | Healthcare, IT and tech-enabled services |
| Track record | Not published |
Sierra Pacific says its work centers on competitive sell-side M&A, and it is the one firm here that addresses the unsolicited offer: for sellers with an inbound offer, it often runs a limited process to benchmark the proposal. The pages we could load give no team, band or transactions.
Checked: October 9, 2026.
Best for: Founder-led healthcare and IT services sellers who have an unsolicited offer in hand.
Considerations: Securities run through Finalis Securities LLC, a FINRA and SIPC member. Ask who would run your deal.
What 2026 Deal Data Shows for California Companies
ProCloser runs a public technology deal index that records announced acquisitions from public sources, one source link per row. It holds 2,126 rows announced between January 2 and October 9, 2026.
The index skews to technology and rarely states a target's city. SaaS leads with 436 rows and only 175 rows name a sell-side advisor, so a location cut is thin. Two California-target deals could be checked against their sources:
- 4CRisk.ai, acquired by CUBE, announced February 19, 2026. The CUBE press release calls 4CRisk a Silicon Valley headquartered RegTech business. Terms and advisors were not disclosed.
- DineUp, acquired by Goodwin, announced October 8, 2026. The Business Journals headline describes DineUp as a Los Angeles catering tech company. We could read only the headline, because the article body was blocked, so the Los Angeles location rests on that headline alone. Terms and advisors were not disclosed.
A third row, LookingPoint, is described as California-based in the index summary, but we could not open its press release, so we do not count it. None of the 12 firms on this page appears as a credited sell-side advisor in the index. That is expected, since lower-middle-market sellers are rarely public companies with press-release duties.
The Honest Tier Below This Band
Under about $5M of revenue, most firms on this page will decline politely. A business broker is the honest fit, especially when the likely buyer is an individual operator using SBA financing. Read our comparison of business brokers versus M&A advisors before you choose, and check any broker's license directly with the California Department of Real Estate.
The Honest Tier Above This Band
Above roughly $300M of company value the answer changes. Large national banks such as Moelis & Company, Lincoln International, William Blair and Piper Sandler keep Los Angeles-area offices, as our Los Angeles guide documents from their own sites. Below that size expect a junior team and a long minimum-fee conversation.
Valuation Ladder by Industry
This table uses ProCloser's industry multiple guide for sectors that appear in the entries above.
| Industry | Typical Multiple | Basis |
|---|---|---|
| MSP and IT services | 5.0x to 9.0x | EBITDA |
| Manufacturing | 4.0x to 6.0x | EBITDA |
| Construction and trades | 3.0x to 5.0x | EBITDA |
| E-commerce and retail | 3.0x to 5.0x | SDE |

What These Advisors Charge in 2026
Of the pages we read, only Keystone Business Advisors says anything about fees, and that is the timing: due at closing. None publishes a rate card. The ranges below are ProCloser's own guidance from our M&A advisory fees guide. Use them to sanity-check an engagement letter.
| Deal Size (EV) | Retainer, Monthly | Success Fee | Approx Total at Close |
|---|---|---|---|
| $2M to $5M | $0 to $5,000 | Around 6% to 10%, often with a minimum fee | $150K to $500K |
| $5M to $15M | $5,000 to $10,000 | Around 4% to 6% | $300K to $800K |
| $15M to $50M | $10,000 to $20,000 | Around 3% to 5% | $600K to $2.0M |
| $50M to $100M | $15,000 to $25,000 | Around 2% to 3% | $1.2M to $3.0M |
| Above $100M | $20,000 to $50,000 | Under 2%, often tiered | Negotiated, minimums apply |
Check the retainer credit and the minimum fee. Use the advisory fee calculator before you sign.
The Frames We Use in This Guide
Five lenses we apply to every California mandate. Each has a rule and an action.
1. The Published-Band Test
A firm that states its range in public has accepted a limit. If it will not, ask for the revenue of its three most recent closes.
2. The Named-People Test
Find the people who will run your deal on the firm's own site. Two partners who say they run every engagement beat a bench of 25 with unexplained roles.
3. The Sell-Side Conflict Test
Ask whether the firm also takes buyer mandates in your sector, before the engagement letter.
4. The California Close Test
Ask for named closes you can place in California, with a year. Only three of the twelve firms give enough to place one.
5. The Regional Gap
Statewide coverage is a claim and local depth is a question. Ask which buyers in your sector the firm called last year.
How to Verify an Advisor
- Look up the firm and each named person on FINRA BrokerCheck. A "Member FINRA/SIPC" footer names a broker-dealer, which may not be the entity on the engagement letter.
- Where a firm says it is not a broker-dealer, ask a securities attorney which structure fits your sale.
- Ask for three closes under $50M with the seller's industry, the buyer type and the year.
- Read the tail clause in the engagement letter. A fee that keeps running after termination can cost more than the retainer you avoided.
The Traps in a Best California Advisor List
- Career volume is not firm volume. A career total says nothing about a $20M sale.
- Premium and close-rate claims need a sample. Ask how many deals sit behind a 20% premium or a published rate.
- Ranking by deal volume alone misleads in California. Public announcements rarely give a target's city, so a volume league table is a guess.
Where ProCloser Fits
ProCloser is a deal-matching network, not an M&A advisor or broker-dealer. We may receive compensation when you connect with an advisor through our matching service. See the Advertiser Disclosure and the TrustRank methodology.
The Bottom Line
If you own a California company with $10M to $100M of revenue, call the firms that say in public who they serve, who runs the deal and what they have closed. On that test Kinected Advisors ranks first, Keystone Business Advisors second and Exit Strategies Group third.

Frequently Asked Questions
best sell-side M&A advisory firms for lower middle market companies in California
Start with the firms that publish a seller profile you can check. Kinected Advisors ranks first: a $10M to $100M revenue profile, two named partners who run every deal, sell-side only, and Southern California closes. Keystone Business Advisors is second, with a $5M to $100M band and 250-plus transactions. Exit Strategies Group in the Bay Area is third. The other nine publish less.
best boutique M&A advisory firms for selling a company with $10 million to $100 million in revenue
Three firms state a revenue band or ceiling on their own sites: Keystone Business Advisors ($5M to $100M), Exit Strategies Group (up to $100M) and the number one firm on this page. The rest say middle market, which can mean $5M or $500M. Ask any firm for the smallest and largest deal it closed last year and who ran each.
best M&A advisors to hire after receiving an unsolicited offer to buy my business
Hire an advisor before you reply. Sierra Pacific Partners is the one firm here that addresses this on its site: it says it often runs a limited process to benchmark an inbound proposal and test market interest. A buyer who approaches you directly controls price and timeline until a second bidder appears.
best M&A advisors for a confidential valuation of a private company before selling
Two kinds of firm do this. Objective and Exit Strategies Group issue formal valuations for tax, buy-sell and exit planning, which cost money and hold up in a dispute. The number one firm here offers a confidential valuation opinion delivered as a conversation. Use a formal valuation for estate or partner buyouts and a sell-side opinion before a sale.
best exit planning firms to increase business value before a sale
Exit Strategies Group lists exit planning as a core service beside valuation and sales, and Meritage Partners lists it in its navigation. Start two to three years before a sale. Buyers pay for clean financials, low customer concentration and a team that runs without the owner.
top M&A advisors for selling a manufacturing or industrial services company
Keystone Business Advisors has named closes in precision measuring tools and powder coating. Exit Strategies Group has a manufacturers page and sold Turner Designs of San Jose in September 2026. Meritage Partners and Objective both list manufacturing. Ask each for its last two industrial closes and the buyer type.
top M&A advisors for selling a business in Los Angeles
Seven firms on this page work from the Los Angeles area: Kinected Advisors in Encino, Montminy & Co and DelMorgan & Co in Santa Monica, Objective in Century City, CriticalPoint Partners in El Segundo, Anomalie Group in Beverly Hills and Intrepid in Los Angeles. Our Los Angeles guide ranks the wider local field.
I run a $12M company in the Inland Empire. Do I need a Los Angeles bank or can a statewide firm cover me?
A statewide firm can cover you. Keystone Business Advisors says it sells California-based companies up to $100M in revenue, and Exit Strategies Group works from the Bay Area. We found no Inland Empire, San Diego, Sacramento or Central Valley firm with enough published detail to rank. Pick on sector and the named people, not on the freeway exit.
