How we ranked the firms
The list is written for the owner of a privately held San Diego-area business weighing a sale. A firm qualified only if its own website shows a San Diego-metro office or address. ProCloser publishes this page and assigned the tiers itself, using three criteria stated on each firm's own pages.
How tiers were assigned
Deal focus. Whether M&A advisory or business sales is the firm's stated core practice, and which side of a deal it represents.
Disclosed deal count on the firm's own site. A stated number of completed transactions. Counts are self-reported and unaudited, and counts that appear only in banker bios are labeled that way.
Sector breadth. How many sectors the firm lists, from one narrow sector to many.
Tier A: M&A advisory is the core practice and the site states 100 or more transactions. Tier B: a San Diego-area office and an M&A focus, with no firm-wide count. Tier C: a business-sale firm aimed at smaller sales, or a multi-service firm whose page does not tie investment banking to the San Diego office. Excluded: firms whose own page could not be reached or showed no San Diego-area office, and any claim without a public page behind it.
Where a page carries no figure, the entry says so rather than guess. Facts are as published on each firm's site as of October 2026, and every page is linked in the Sources section.

Tier A: 100 or more stated transactions
These three firms state 100 or more completed transactions on their own sites. Counts are self-reported, and each entry notes what the count does and does not cover.
1 Objective Investment Banking & Valuation
Sell-side investment banking and valuation firm with a San Diego registered office, stating 500+ M&A transactions.
Best for: Owners of technology, healthcare, consumer, business services or manufacturing companies who want a sell-side advisor that states a large deal count.
Objective states "500+ M&A Transactions" on its site and describes sell-side work across six industries: Business Services, Consumer, Healthcare Tech & Services, Life Sciences Services & Tech, Manufacturing and Technology. Its site says investment banking is offered through BA Securities, LLC.
Its San Diego location page lists 11622 El Camino Real, Suite 100, San Diego, CA 92130. The page labels that address a registered office for legal and administrative purposes only, and says it does not accept mail or visits.
| Transaction record | 500+ M&A transactions, as stated on the firm's site |
| Role stated | Sell-side advisory; investment banking offered through BA Securities, LLC |
| Tier | A |
Considerations: A footnote on the firm's site says engagements marked with an asterisk were completed by a principal before joining the firm, so the count is not all firm closings. The San Diego address is a registered office only, so ask where the banker who would run your sale sits.
Firm pages: Objective San Diego location page; Objective home page.
2 Sugar Tree Capital
Investment bank with a La Jolla Village Drive office in San Diego, focused on food and agribusiness and specialty services sell-side work.
Best for: Owners of food, agribusiness or specialty services companies with an enterprise value between $20m and $500m.
Sugar Tree's site says the firm has "advised on over 100 transactions" and states a target enterprise value range of "$20m" to "$500m". It lists Food & Agribusiness and Specialty Services as its sectors.
The firm's work includes sell-side mandates, divestitures and recapitalizations. Its site lists 4660 La Jolla Village Dr, Suite 100, San Diego, CA 92122.
| Transaction record | Over 100 transactions, as stated on the firm's site |
| Role stated | Sell-side, divestitures and recapitalizations |
| Tier | A |
Considerations: The sector focus is narrow, so a company outside food, agribusiness or specialty services is a weak fit. The page states a count rather than a list, so ask for named recent closes.
Firm pages: Sugar Tree Capital site.
3 Fleetridge Pacific
Healthcare M&A advisory firm with an Encinitas office in San Diego County, stating hundreds of completed transactions since 2003.
Best for: Owners of home health, home care, hospice or physician practice businesses.
Fleetridge describes healthcare M&A advisory for home health, home care, hospice and physician practices. Its site says it has completed "hundreds" of transactions nationwide since 2003.
Its site lists 535 Encinitas Blvd., Suite 106, Encinitas, CA 92024, which is in San Diego County.
| Transaction record | Hundreds of completed transactions nationwide since 2003, as stated on the firm's site |
| Role stated | Healthcare M&A advisory |
| Tier | A |
Considerations: The count is given as "hundreds", not a number, and the practice is healthcare only. Ask for the number of sales closed in the last 24 months in your care setting.
Firm pages: Fleetridge Pacific site.
Tier B: San Diego office, no firm-wide count
These three firms show a San Diego-area office and an M&A focus, but their pages state no firm-wide transaction total.
4 LR Tullius
M&A and financial advisory firm with a Via Frontera office in San Diego, with deal counts published in banker bios.
Best for: Owners who want a San Diego advisor whose bankers publish their individual deal experience.
LR Tullius's contact page describes the firm as Mergers & Acquisitions, Strategic Planning and Financial Advisory. Lance Tullius's bio says he has "completed over 200 transactions" representing "over $3 billion in aggregate transaction value". David Shankar's bio says he has helped facilitate "over 100 transactions".
The page lists 10920 Via Frontera, Suite 450, San Diego, CA 92127. It states no firm-wide transaction total and no formal sector focus.
| Transaction record | Bio counts only: over 200 transactions (Lance Tullius), over 100 (David Shankar); no firm-wide total |
| Role stated | Not stated on the page |
| Tier | B |
Considerations: The counts belong to individual bankers, and some may predate their time at the firm. Ask which closed sales were completed under the LR Tullius name.
Firm pages: LR Tullius contact page.
5 Corporate Finance Associates, San Diego
Investment banking firm with a West Bernardo Drive office in San Diego that says it represents only the seller's side.
Best for: Owners of middle market businesses who want a firm that states it works one side only.
The San Diego page calls Corporate Finance Associates an Investment Banking firm and says "We represent only one side, your side". It describes its focus as acquiring, capitalizing and divesting middle market businesses.
The page lists 16870 West Bernardo Dr., Suite 400, San Diego, CA 92127. It states no deal count and no size range.
| Transaction record | No deal count stated on the page |
| Role stated | Represents one side, as stated on the page |
| Tier | B |
Considerations: The office page gives no transaction record. Ask for named closed sales and the size of each.
Firm pages: Corporate Finance Associates San Diego page.
6 Schwartz Advisors
M&A advisory firm in La Jolla focused on the motor vehicle aftermarket.
Best for: Owners of motor vehicle aftermarket businesses, especially closely held and family companies.
Schwartz Advisors describes itself as "an accomplished team of motor vehicle aftermarket professionals" that "expertly facilitate buy-side, sell-side, and strategy growth projects". Its sell-side work is aimed at closely held and family businesses exploring their options.
Its contact page lists 2223 Avenida De La Playa, Suite 350, La Jolla, CA 92037. The description page lists engagements under "What We've Done" but gives no total.
| Transaction record | Engagements listed on the site, no total stated |
| Role stated | Sell-side, buy-side and growth strategy |
| Tier | B |
Considerations: The practice is one industry, so it fits only automotive aftermarket sellers. Ask for the dates of the engagements the site lists.
Firm pages: Schwartz Advisors site; Schwartz Advisors contact page.
Tier C: Smaller sales or unconfirmed office role
One firm sells smaller businesses and the other lists investment banking without tying it to its San Diego office.
7 Vanguard Resource Group
Business-sale firm in San Diego stating more than 850 businesses sold, with typical deals from a few hundred thousand dollars to a few million.
Best for: Owners of smaller businesses selling for a few million dollars or less.
Vanguard's site says the firm has "sold over 850 businesses in over 75 different industries" with "transaction value exceeding $400MM". It says "Our typical transactions range from a few hundred thousand dollars to a few million".
The site lists 16870 West Bernardo Drive, Suite 400, San Diego, CA 92127, the same suite shown on the Corporate Finance Associates San Diego page.
| Transaction record | Over 850 businesses sold in over 75 industries, as stated on the firm's site |
| Role stated | Business sales, as stated on the site |
| Tier | C |
Considerations: The count covers small business sales across many industries, so it does not compare to an investment bank's middle market record. Ask how its process and fees differ from an advisory mandate.
Firm pages: Vanguard Resource Group site.
8 Stout
National advisory firm with a Carmel Mountain Road office in San Diego that lists investment banking among its services.
Best for: Owners who want a large national platform and will confirm that a San Diego banker would lead the sale.
Stout's locations page lists a San Diego office at 3390 Carmel Mountain Road, Suite 150, San Diego, CA 92121. The page lists Investment Banking as one of the firm's services.
The page does not say which services are delivered from the San Diego office, so the link between the office and an investment banking team is not shown.
| Transaction record | No deal count stated on the locations page |
| Role stated | Not stated on the locations page |
| Tier | C |
Considerations: Confirm whether an investment banker sits in San Diego and who would run your process. The locations page does not answer either.
Firm pages: Stout locations page.
How to Choose
Three questions separate the firms quickly.
- Which of your closest sales did this firm close, and who bought? Ask for three sales near your size and industry, with the buyer on each.
- Who runs my process? Ask whether a named banker, not a junior team, leads your sale, and where that banker sits.
- Which buyers will you call first and why? A good advisor should name buyers by pattern, not hand you a generic list.
What the ProCloser Deal Index Shows for San Diego
The index records acquisitions of technology and software companies and has no location field, so it cannot size a San Diego sale. A search of its deal and advisor fields for San Diego-area place names and for the eight firms on this page returned no matches.
That sample is under 10, so this guide states no valuation multiple and no buyer mix from the index. Browse the ProCloser deal index for the sectors it does cover, or run your own numbers in the business valuation calculator.
Frequently Asked Questions
Who are the best M&A advisors in San Diego?
Objective Investment Banking & Valuation, Sugar Tree Capital and Fleetridge Pacific lead this guide because each states 100 or more completed transactions on its own site. LR Tullius, Corporate Finance Associates and Schwartz Advisors follow with a San Diego-area office and an M&A focus but no firm-wide deal count. Vanguard Resource Group and Stout complete the list. Which one fits depends on your industry and deal size.
Which San Diego firms state how many deals they have done?
Objective states 500+ M&A transactions, with a footnote that some engagements were completed by a principal before joining. Sugar Tree states it has advised on over 100 transactions. Fleetridge Pacific says it has completed hundreds of transactions nationwide since 2003. Vanguard Resource Group says it has sold over 850 businesses. LR Tullius publishes counts only for individual bankers: over 200 for Lance Tullius and over 100 for David Shankar. All counts are self-reported and unaudited.
Which firms focus on a single sector?
Sugar Tree Capital lists Food & Agribusiness and Specialty Services. Fleetridge Pacific advises on healthcare businesses such as home health, home care, hospice and physician practices. Schwartz Advisors focuses on the motor vehicle aftermarket. Objective lists six industries, and the other firms state no narrow sector.
Does every firm on this list have a San Diego office?
Each firm's own page shows an address in San Diego, La Jolla or Encinitas. Two caveats apply. Objective labels its San Diego address a registered office for legal and administrative purposes that does not accept mail or visits. Stout lists investment banking as a service, but its locations page does not tie that service to the San Diego office. Ask each firm which banker would run your sale and where that person sits.
What deal sizes do these firms handle?
Only some firms say. Sugar Tree states enterprise values from $20m to $500m. Vanguard Resource Group says its typical transactions range from a few hundred thousand dollars to a few million. The other pages read for this guide state no size range, so ask each firm for its three closest comparable sales.
Which firm suits a sale under a few million dollars?
Vanguard Resource Group states a typical range of a few hundred thousand dollars to a few million, the lowest band stated by any firm here. A brokerage process and an investment bank mandate are run and priced differently, so ask each firm how its process works before you sign.
What do San Diego M&A advisors charge?
None of the pages read for this guide publish a fee schedule, so this guide states no fee figures. Ask each firm for its fee structure in writing, including any retainer, the success fee basis and any tail period.
How were the tiers assigned?
ProCloser publishes this page and assigned the tiers itself, using three things stated on each firm's own pages: deal focus, a disclosed deal count and sector breadth. Tier A firms state 100 or more transactions and a defined M&A advisory practice. Tier B firms show a San Diego-area office and an M&A focus without a firm-wide count. Tier C covers a business-sale firm aimed at smaller sales and a multi-service firm whose San Diego page does not tie investment banking to the office.
What does the ProCloser deal index show for San Diego?
The index holds 2,211 technology and software acquisitions as of October 31, 2026. It has no location field, and a search for San Diego-area place names and for the eight firm names in its deal and advisor fields returned no matches. The San Diego sample is under 10, so this guide states no valuation multiple and no buyer mix for San Diego.
What should I ask an advisor before signing?
Ask for three closed sales near your size and industry with the buyer on each, who will run your process day to day, which buyers they would call first and why, how fees work, and how long the engagement and tail period last.
Is ProCloser an M&A advisor, and does it benefit from this list?
ProCloser is not an M&A advisor, runs no sale processes and takes no success fee on any transaction. It operates a matching service that introduces sellers to advisory firms and may receive compensation when you connect through it. That is a conflict, so read the disclosure at the bottom and verify each advisor yourself.
Which firms were left out of this guide?
Firms were left out when their own page could not be reached or showed no San Diego-area office. One site refused the connection, one was a parked domain, one showed an address in another state and one own site could not be found. Directory listings were not used as a source.

Where ProCloser Fits
ProCloser is not an M&A advisor, does not run sale processes and does not take a success fee on any transaction. We operate a matching service that introduces sellers to advisory firms, some of which appear above.
That last clause is a conflict and you should treat it as one. Read the editorial disclosure at the bottom of the page. Then check each advisor's record yourself, because the opinion that should decide your mandate is the one you form after calling references.
