Deal volume in September 2026
The index records the date a deal was first announced, taken from the linked source. Using that date, September 2026 holds 416 deals. August 2026 holds 342, so the month is up 74 (21.6%) against 342. Across the whole extract, September 2026 ranks number 1 of 10 calendar months in the extract, counting the partial month of October 2026 (the highest monthly count in the index). That averages 13.9 announcements per calendar day.
| Month | Deals announced | Per calendar day |
|---|---|---|
| July 2026 | 269 | 8.7 |
| August 2026 | 342 | 11.0 |
| September 2026 | 416 | 13.9 |
The September 2026 figure was read from the extract dated October 14, 2026. A row added later with a September 2026 announcement date would raise it, so treat the count as the total in that extract.

8 deals announced in the month carry a reported value that the source marks as an estimate, a media report or not a purchase price. They are left out of the count, the total, the median, the mean, the size buckets and the ranking above and counted as unpriced. For the record: Cegid / Silae (reported value $11.60B, unconfirmed); CVC Capital Partners / CDN77 (reported value $1.90B, unconfirmed); Hg / ENTERSOFTONE (reported value $1.08B, unconfirmed); Palo Alto Networks / Console (reported value $500M, unconfirmed); Descartes Systems / OCR Services (reported value $82.8M, unconfirmed); Greenly / Normative (reported value $69M, unconfirmed); Upwind / Aegis (reported value $30M, unconfirmed); Fomo / Mobula (reported value $17M, unconfirmed).
Size bucket mix
Size buckets follow the disclosed value. The 8 reported-only values count as undisclosed, so 84.6% of the month sits in the undisclosed bucket and cannot be sized. Among the 64 priced deals, 21 were under $20 million, 19 fell between $20 million and $200 million, 13 between $200 million and $1 billion and 11 above $1 billion. The $20 million to $200 million band held 29.7% of the priced deals this month.
| Size bucket | September 2026 | Share of September 2026 | August 2026 |
|---|---|---|---|
| Under $20M | 21 | 5.0% | 24 |
| $20M to $200M | 19 | 4.6% | 12 |
| $200M to $1B | 13 | 3.1% | 19 |
| Over $1B | 11 | 2.6% | 13 |
| Undisclosed | 352 | 84.6% | 274 |
Who advised
33 of 416 deals (7.9%) named at least one advisor in a public source. That produced 50 credits across 45 advisory firms. 40 firms were credited once. Carlsquare (2), Houlihan Lokey (2), J.P. Morgan (2), TripleTree (2) and Evercore (2) had more than one credit. A credit means the firm was named as sell-side or buy-side financial advisor in a source linked on the deal row, counted once per deal per firm.

These counts measure who was named, not who did the work. 92.1% of the month's deals name no advisor at all. For a quarter-level view see the advisor league view.
Cross-border share
A deal counts as cross-border when the acquirer and the target are based in different countries, as recorded from the source. 93 of the 416 deals met that test (22.4%). The most common target countries among them were US (15), GB (12), DE (11), FR (6), SE (4). The most common acquirer countries were US (31), GB (8), FR (7), CA (6), AU (5).
| Measure | September 2026 | Share of September 2026 | August 2026 | Share of August 2026 |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Cross-border deals | 93 | 22.4% | 73 | 21.3% |
| US buyer, non-US target | 31 | 7.5% | ||
| Non-US buyer, US target | 15 | 3.6% | ||
| US and Europe (EU, UK, CH, NO) | 26 | 6.2% | 13 | 3.8% |
The rows overlap: a US buyer of a UK target counts in the second and fourth rows. The full list of US and Europe deals is on the cross-border cut.

Methodology and limits
What the index counts. The ProCloser Tech M&A Deal Index lists publicly announced acquisitions of software, SaaS and technology-enabled businesses, labelled across eleven sectors. Each row links to the announcement it was built from: a company or acquirer press release, an SEC filing, wire coverage or trade press. The source mix for September 2026 was 360 news articles, 53 press releases and 3 SEC 8-K filings.
What "closed" means here. The index records announcement dates. It does not track completion, so a deal announced in September 2026 may close later and a deal that closed in September 2026 may have been announced earlier. Read every count on this page as announced deals.
Confidence. 314 of the 416 rows carry high confidence and 102 medium confidence. A value is shown only when a source prints a figure; a currency conversion is noted on the row. 8 values in September 2026 were set aside as reported only (a media estimate, an unconfirmed report or a figure that is not a purchase price) and are excluded from every total, median, mean, size bucket and ranking on this page.
Corrections. If a row is wrong or a deal is missing, send the public link through the submit-a-deal form. Corrections change the dataset and this page follows the next time it is generated.
